burning car seats

The jeepy project is a case of starting with being cruel to be kind and today this resulted in the seats being ripped out and pretty much taking it all back to the metal. In doing so we have isolated any issues of rust on the vehicle and where we are going to have to cut out and repair plating. Luckily enough the underneath is just dirty rather than rusting so having it cleaned and underbody coated won’t be too much of a major job. The photo may look a bit severe in burning the seats but the metal is going for scrap tomorrow and they wont accept it unless its bare metal.

Rusting vehicle floor

Worst part of the damage on the vehicle is where the seats have been. What has been happening is the rainwater running down the back and sitting in a nice well area that has simply just rotten the floor away. Now there is no seats its going to dry out tomorrow before the grinder gets in there to separate the good from the bad and start repairing the floor. The radio box in the middle is also being ripped out so that the new bench seat will run right across. Looking at it today the bench seat is big enough for four passengers not three which is the only good thing that came out of the seat removal.
