Marrying a filipina

Its always the biggest disappointment for me when I hear someone say “my Filipina”. It sounds to much like someone talking about a pet than their partner and it just irritates me. To be honest I never call April “my Filipina” as the terminology should be and is in our household “my wife” because the whole point of a partnership is that your a couple. Race or religion shouldn’t be reasons of separation. I am not a Catholic and unlikely to be anytime soon and its not because I am against peoples belief but the way its pushed on people. The recent christening is a prime example where a seminar has to be done in advance as more of a sales pitch on religion than anything else but a service that also has to be paid for!

There is also a saying you marry a Filipina you marry the family but if you are as wise to the world as I have been the family marry you. I see it all the time here where people are taken advantage of because its “Filipino culture” but lets not forget your not a Filipino at which point did you give up your nationality? Use it to your advantage as it happens to often where people remove your heritage to say “but in the Philippines or its a Filipino thing”. Its not your thing!! you were brought up differently and although you may respect other peoples beliefs you need to put your foot down saying also respect mine!

Biggest issues within the Philippines our outside will always be family complications and resolving them will never be easy. The important thing is never to bury the head in the sand but deal with them head on. If its always head on you deal with them early on as well. At the same time you can remove the guilt as often your partner will be pushed on that she was educated etc. with the cost of the family as being the major. Not that you have married her and providing a life that is unreachable in other circumstances.
