Young boxer Karlo Maquinto who was only 21 died at exactly 10:15 on Friday, February 3, 2012. He had been rushed to FEU-NRMF Medical Center in West Fairview, Quezon City and was declared brain dead after suffering from subdural hematoma.This was caused due to injuries received while boxing against boxer Mark Joseph Costa of Jaro, Ilo-Ilo in an amateur match (called undercard locally) on Saturday January 28 at the Recom Dome in Amparo Subdivision, Caloocan.
After it was announced the match was a draw he passed out and never regained consciousness. The fight was part of Dodie Boy Penalosa, Jr.’s "Dugong Kampeon" bout with Thailand’s Superjames Singmanasak.Maquinto had a professional record of 8 wins, no loose and 1 draw.
A young sportsman not only ends his career but his life.
