Living In The Philippines Website
This is one website that is very out of date. Infact a recent retiree to the Philippines believed the information on this site and was very disappointed when he arrived because it was nothing like expected. It seems almost a decade out of date on information. I don’t know why the owner hasn’t kept it upto date because it has all the information but like reading a back issue rather than the World Wide Web. I have also used the forums relating to this site and was instantly attacked by one of the forum users (not sure if a mod). Who seemed very stuck in his ways and unwilling to accept other peoples points of views even though his narrow view was very wrong. Anyway its worth a visit but I wouldn’t believe anything on it but it will give you the right questions to look elsewhere. I wouldn’t buy any of the E-books either by the way I purchased one when I originally was coming to the Philippines the first time. Nothing but complete crap more of trying to fill pages with words than offering any information save your money and if you want real advice just buy me a beer one afternoon.
The life of maids, drivers etc. for a retired person is unrealistic because simply most people don’t bother and don’t need them. Aswell as the fact the majority of retirees are living in 2 – 3 bedroom houses not a mansion. The cost of housing has greatly increased in the Philippines especially round the city areas if you want a mansion you are either going to have to live in the middle of no where or pay excess amounts. A Sub-division house of around 150sqm is going to set you back around P4m+ so getting a large sized house is only going to come about if you build it on a lot with a tight budget.
I’m not trying to damage the site it simply needs up dating and telling people the truth. I may hurt the authors feelings but I know of at least one person who believed this drivel who ended up arriving here on a fixed pension and budget to realise that his mansion is a small sub-division house and the maids, driver and yaya are infact his partner there is no budget for other people in the house. Also if you look at the site I would have one major question how much do you think the owner has made from the new people arriving over new business ventures in the Philippines to increase his monthly budget?
